Local jail and record contacts
Use the office that holds the question. Pittsylvania County Jail and the Sheriff’s Criminal Records unit provide the documented local custody and booking-record routes. The County says the jail system can use Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority for additional detainees, so a local-jail answer may not cover every custody location.
Use 911 rather than email for an emergency. A narrow adult record request should identify the person, a date range, and any known incident or case number. The county booking-record and custody routes explain how to separate a request from a current-status check.
Where to direct each question
Different systems hold different records. Start with the custody state and then contact the relevant official source.
- Current local or regional jail status: Jail Administration, then Virginia Jail VINE at 1-800-467-4943.
- Adult booking record or routine intake photograph: Sheriff Criminal Records, with the Sheriff named as custodian in the County’s NextRequest route.
- Pittsylvania court disposition: General District Court, 11 Bank Street, Suite 201, Chatham, 434-432-7879, or Circuit Court, One North Main Street, 434-432-7887.
- State custody or supervision: the VADOC locator and its records office.
- Federal imprisonment or eligible immigration detention: the official BOP or ICE locator, each with its own scope.
A charge at booking is not a court outcome. The court or clerk is the appropriate source when the question is what happened after an arrest.
